Hats off to you brother...
Anyone that disciplined to run something so difficult has my full respect. I can't even imagine biking (or even walking) 135 miles through Badwater. |

I would like to run that in the future as well. My goal was by the time I turned 40, but that is less than a year away.

PROPS!!! Major props to you. Have you been to Death Valley yet, it is awesome. I ran a marathon there a while back. But Badwater? That is huge. I will be keeping track of your oddysey, yeah, that is what it will be. But, it will be so freaking EPIC. I wish I could be there crewing for you. And, I don't even know you. But, I have to work. Who will crew for you by the way? There is so much planning to do. This is no regular run, no walk in the park. So much to plan, so much to consider.

Hey, I was thinking. Do you know Pam Reed? It may not be a bad idea to contact her. See what kind of wisdom she may be willing to impart on you.

Hey, Marc,
FYI, Todd is in fact a Badwater veteran, having completed it last year in 40:54:07 (18:11 minutes per mile for 135 miles), 33rd of 78 finishers. He was also the 2004 winner at age 46 (and is still course record holder!) of the Can Lake 50 (http://www.canlake50.org) in 6:47:36 (8:09 mpm). And he is Race Director of the Green Lakes Endurance Runs 100K/50K (http://www.gleruns.org/), the 4th race in the annual Western New York Ultra Series (http://www.wny-ultra.org/ , BPAC 6-Hour Classic being the first).
I bet that, as a trail runner, you would appreciate some of the WNY-US trail runs; Finger Lakes 50's (50 mi/50K/25K) is fast approaching, in another month. If you have a chance, check it out, it's a nice 15.5-mile loop in Finger Lakes National Forest (down between Seneca and Cayuga Lakes off of NY414 in Hector).

Hey Rick, nice to hear from you. That is good to know, it has been a few years since I last lived around here that there are so many things I am not aware of. It is so cool that someone from around here has done Badwater. It is something that I have a lot of interest in, but I don't have the ability to do. Thanks also for the info, I hope to do something this year, maybe one of the Finger Lakes events will be the ticket. I have done the Monster Marathon(1/2) before, that sounds like it may work if it still exists. I have not run a hill since I left AZ.

For those interested, my blog reports on my preparations and training, and once we are in Death Valley, July 12-16, (no cell connection), we'll be posting updates via satellite phone on everything from meeting the ultra celebrities, saying hi to Ben Jones, our pre-race dinner, and all the good, the bad, and the ugly. And those reports should be interesting because it will be in the words of my crew. http://www.gleruns.org/blog.html July 14-16, the race will be posting updates. This will be the link to my results. This link will be found on the blog. http://dbase.adventurecorps.com/individualTd.php?e=1177
