Hello Jeff,
I crossed the Taco run off my bucket list last week. I was talking with father and son runners the Whelan's and was impressed too find out that Joseph has run a OTQ time 2:16.
I know that J.Krolick had gotten his time's down over the last couple year's and it got me thinking who holds the fastest marathon time's.

When you get a chance is it possible too list the top 10 fastest marathon time's run by local runner's male and female. Your call on who is considered a local runner and how far back you want to go. Thanks in advance.

PS. The Taco run was one and done

As always please don't hesitate to post any corrections or additions. Women's list is incoming, I forgot about it for a while but today's updates reminded me of it.

2 Updates:
- Steve Haagsma's 2022 race is added (thanks Greg, should've been on there a while ago. The official results show a slightly different time but still inside my arbitrary benchmark)
- Joe Whelan's new PR from yesterday's 2025 Boston Marathon now listed, he is still #2 for this list.

men's criteria:
- sub 2:25 performance
- from, or strongly connected to, WNY

Mark Finucane 2:11:55 1984 Houston Marathon
St Francis HS

Joe Whelan 2:12:16 2025 Boston Marathon
Hamburg HS

Lyle O’Brien 2:13:56 2024 Grandma's Marathon (Duluth, MN)
East Aurora HS

David O'Keeffe 2:16:22 1993 San Sebastián, Spain (World Marathon Cup)

Ralph Zimmerman 2:17:16 1979 New Orleans’ Mardi Gras Marathon

I'd like to start a women's list for WNY performers under 2:54. Please post any thoughts / names / results that I can look into or compile.

my scoring cutoff is arbitrary but in case you're wondering:
women's 2:54 is 908 points per WA scoring tables.
men's 2:25 is 909 points.

Looks like he didn't make the Trials after all due to the tenths of a second. https://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=9802441

I know Rochester is not Buffalo, but I must mention my old pal, the late and great Charlie McMullen.

In the mid-1970’s Charlie ran the mile in 3:56 and the marathon in 2:15. He was a national class master runner and world-class person.

Great job Jake, bad-ass !!!!

Thanks for the update on Jake's race this morning I tried following him online but sometimes old folks and new technology don't mix well.

This is a really funny topic on the BR Forum. The Mighty Mile is probably about as "opposite" of a style of racing compared to a marathon as you can get... Fueling with one meat cheese lettuce & tomato Mighty between all 4 quarter miles definitely rewards runners with a different skill set than enduring the 26.2.

The Mighty Mile was a lot of fun though! Now onto 2019 running goals... should I train on inhaling tacos sub 10 seconds or increasing my mileage???

Albion IS on the list of "local" communities.
Allen Posted - December 06 2018 : 10:12:22
Jeff, is Albion on that list of 122 "local" towns? When I run sub-2:40 at Wineglass next year, it would be cool to get on the top-100 list! Ah, just kidding, but I am aiming for 3:00. At age 60, though, that does age-grade to 2:26 :)
