The start of the 2001 Fisher-Price 5K.
430 runners thunder down Girard Avenue in East Aurora.

Conditions were perfect -
cool temperatures, no wind, and an open road -
over the quiet streets of East Aurora.

There was a race for all family members.
Shown here is the first heat of the Power Wheels Motor Cross Race for ages 3-7.
Also contested was the One Mile Fun Run for ages 5-11
and the Tiny Tot Trot 50-yard dash for ages 2-5.

The Winner!
Paul Spangler of Tallahassee Florida runs an excellent 14:56 to win the 2001 Fisher-Price 5K.

2nd Place Overall
Lackawanna's Rick Stewart collects 2nd place overall with a 16:00 clocking.

Steve White of East Aurora wins his age group with his 17:13 finish time.

First Female Finisher!
Jacklyn Rzepecki of East Aurora wins the womens race with a spectacular 17:39 clocking!
Jacklyn won the womens race last year also but her time this year is nearly one minute faster.

2nd Place Woman
Cynthia Campbell of St. Catherines, Ontario, finishes 2nd in 18:05.

A festive family atmosphere prevails near the finish line.
John Beishline works the bullhorn and Pat Leone records finishing times
as runners successfully complete the 2001 Fisher-Price 5K run.

If you look closely you can count twelve (12) strollers in this picture
including Jim Lynch (#299) and daughter in the foreground.
The family friendly Fisher-Price 5K is one of the few Buffalo area races that accommodates baby strollers.
