Should a 5K, easily the most run distance, be represented here?

The 5Ks that draw the most runners are the Moonlight Run and The 50 Yard Dash.

The largest 5k in Buffalo is GOTR at UB.

The second largest race in Buffalo is JPMCC.

I only compiled 5k finishers from 2025 ...

I should have gone back 10 years, (too lazy), although Jeff makes it easy to extract the numbers.

9/12/2025 50 Yard Finish Orchard Park 5K 1367
8/13/2025 Moonlight Run Williamsville 5K 1143
6/8/2025 Girls On The Run 5K Amherst 5K 1022

My favorites are no longer around ... Vietnam Vets and Bullfeathers!

Good stuff---Lloyd--so good to see you here.

I can't count the Corporate Challenge as a major because it's not a totally open race, is it? Don't you have to register with your company?

Secondly, many cities have CC races, so this is not a unique to Buffalo road race. It should be a unique Buffalo race????

Bullfeathers was SUCH a good race. So was Connors-Kait-Harrity.

Could St. Gregory the Great make some's list?

The Bob Giza Depew/Lancaster 10K always draws a great crowd.
Two favorites no longer around. Hamburg Dash and Splash, MMA 5K

Girls on the Run has nearly 3,000 participants. Only about 1,200 are timed.

Thank you Rick!

Looks like we don't have a definitive 5k for the list?

How's this John?
----------------
Shamrock
Turkey Trot
Subaru
Buffalo Half Marathon

The Top Four in no order:
Shamrock 8K
Tom Donnelly Hall of Fame 5K
YMCA Turkey Trot 8K
Depew Lancaster Independence Day 10K

I cannot believe no one thought of the HOF race

I like the HOF race---but is it still a must-race in Buffalo?

The race attracts some very elite runners
If one looks at the finishing times, they are right up there.
I should have included Subaru, but, it is an elite race attracting top talent world wide. I do not consider it a down to earth WNY race.

Shamrock and turkey trot are no brainers. I’d also go for the Lancaster 10k. #4 is a tough one. I get the arguments for and against Subaru and Corp Challenge so would rule them out. I do think #4 should be a 5k. My choice is St. Greg’s or Moonlight.

Since my racing and running days are long over, my opinion is less valuable than that of current day runners. I think #4 should be a very competitive 5k, not necessarily the one with highest number of entrants.

Good topic John. I always enjoy your posts.
