Is there a reason why the sectionals are not at Elma Meadows in 2014?

Still a lawsuit from States two years ago. I LOVED having the Sectionals at Sunshine Park. The vantage points are better. It is not as far as Elma Meadows or Long Point.

Jeanne---I can see you points, but you don't move the Rose Bowl from the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. Elam Meadows is the mecca of Section VI Cross Country. Let's hope it returns.

Not likely, John. it has been two years. You can blame the lawyers who have gone after everyone but the squirrels there. I have never been crazy about the way the people ** Elma Meadows treat the athletes, etc.. This dates back to the Checkers Run there years ago. Yes, the venue is great. No one can disagree with you.

I hold out hope as a purist, Jeanne and others. I don't know the details but how could Elma Meadows be liable for the death of a young athlete from cardiac arrest? And, if the same thing happened at Sunshine Park, would they do the same thing---close that venue down? I can't imagine the pain of that family, but suing for years isn't going to bring their child back.
But, in the end, sectionals will be run, whether they're at Elma Meadows, Knox, Sunshine or Beaver Island Park.
Everybody is so sensitive.

I could not agree with you more! Money is not going to relieve the pain. I am sure the lawyers will be the ones cashing in on this one. There have been several lawsuits filed involving Section VI. It is getting harder and harder for the Section to get insurance. It would be one thing if there existed a truly valid contributing factor to an incident/accident/death, but there rarely is. So, everyone loses. I guess these attorneys could care less about the kids. So sad! Think of how many hundreds have been negatively affected by this. What a shame!!

Interesting-as this has not been mentioned at any league meetings.

It's only 2014, three more years to install medical equipment? Wow! I've heard of bureaucracy, but that's unacceptable.

I highly doubt this is a reason. Remember, it is a golf course. There is medical equipment on site. If someone has a heart attack or medical emergency golfing, there has to be something there. Regardless, there is NO WAY to install equipment as an AED on every hole. Think about the ground that would have to be covered. Think about the expense. It is impossible. I have a hard time believing anything from this UBTF15. I really do not think we will ever be back. Again, this is the feeling I get from league meetings.

UBTF15, why are you hiding behind that pseudo name? The fact that you were really only the number 7 runner at your high school shouldn't give you that bad attitude, and negative comments that you are dribbling on this forum. This is to promote the love, and respect of running and it's community. It's intention is NOT to take care of your emotional baggage. |
