Budd is to be commended! It is a challenge to try to capture in just a few words the indomitable and cheerful spirit that is Heather! He gave us a hint. I enjoyed the quotes he culled from the other runners too.
Congratulations to Heather for heading the big LIST in 2012 and to the other hardy souls who eclipsed the century mark. Hitting 100 races in a single year is an amazing and protracted test of fitness, endurance and a bunch of other words-defying qualities.
The 2012 Most Active Racers leaders:
Heather Burger (115) Ed Russell Randy Brownlee Sue Barber Stacey Curry
Flying just under the radar in 2012 was TAMMY MESSMER. Tammy was close with an astounding 80 races completed. In all, about 3,000 unique runners raced in 5 or more Buffalo area road running events in 2012.
In 2011 we witnessed remarkable century marks achieved by:
Fran Warthling (133) -- The all-time single year high! Heather Burger Ed Russell Stacey Curry Ann More
And in 2010:
Mark Reist (125) --- Mark started this game and set the bar high! Karen Radkowski Paul Hassall --- Paul had led this list for several years before 100 races were available
We always honor the swiftest, but there’s many other challenges in the running game. The “Most Active Racers” list attempts to showcase one of those. Running many of our local races is an exercise in fitness, longevity and logistics. It is also one of the most direct ways to support the local running community. As a tiny token of their incredible achievement and commitment, BuffaloRunners awarded engraved trophies to all who topped 100 races in 2012. We managed to do that in 2011 and 2010 too. That may continue…
Today we will launch the new 2013 front-page performance tables, including the 2013 Most Active Racers list. There has only been 5 races recorded so far in Buffalo in 2013. Nobody has 5 yet, but Randy is close with 4 races under his belt already!
The races are on! Good luck runners.

I plan to double the number of races I ran in 2012. That will get me up to......2.
Congrats to those of you that broke the 100 mark. I could never imagine being that crazy! |

And if I'm not mistaken, she ran distances from 1 mile to 50 miles. Impressive and versatile. Congrats. |
