This weekend marks the kick-start of the triathlon season with the Keuka Triathlon held in, well, Keuka, NY. If you have been considering a triathlon it is a great way to break from the routine of marathon training, and is a great way to keep your motivation going.
Score-This has a great series that includes the Keuka Tri, A Tri-in-the-Buff held in Evangola State park, Summer Sizzler, and my personal favorite, the Finger Lakes Tri in September.
New this year is the Try WNY series which includes the innaugural Quakerman Tri, Wilson Wet and Wild, and the M2Extreme for any off-roadies.
For more information go to www.Score-This.com and www.triwny.com. Another great resource is the Buffalo Triatholon club. The website is www.buffalotriathlonclub.com. |

From time to time I think about doing a tri, but I'm really not sure if I am ready to be slow in three sports instead of just running. Here's my question-- where do triathletes mostly come from? Are they cyclists who are branching out? Were they swimmers before they were triathletes? Or are they mostly runners who found their way into the sport by cross-training? |

Anybody have any info on the depth of Green Lake, where the Quakerman Tri is being held?? I tried looking it up, but couldn't find any info on that subject. If not, maybe I will just go out there and take a look around.
Thanks. |

I would never Discount any of the skills, but I personally think the great swimmers have an advantage..........
and from racing these studs in the marathon
1. they are real good 2. they are real good and don't look like runners physically.... that is a compliment

Mustang, I don't think Green Lake is that deep, especially considering the small size of the lake. It should prove to be a relatively calm swimm, which would be good for anyone who is looking to do their first tri. |

Triathletes come from all backgrounds, but if I had to pick just one I'd say running.
If you ever check out the pros you will see that some were cyclists, mtn bikers, runners, collegiate swimmers.
Lance Armstrong was competing in tris against the pros as a teenager. At the time we was pretty gifted in all three disciplines, but it looks like he had more of an affinity for cycling.
Triathletes can't wait for him to give ironman a tri.

Really?
Full Tri? B/C I think if you get too behind on the swim it is tough to come back.
And if you can't swim well, bike well anf run well you really can't win a tri anyway.... right?

I know from watching ironman's the guys that get out of the water 1st are world class swimmers but get smoked in the bike and run. But I would have to say in local races the best swimmers have a big advantage. |
