Posted - October 24 2014 : 06:40:35 This year Grand Island has expanded from a one coach to a two coach setup (one coach for the boys and one coach for the girls). I was told that this was done because even though the existing coach was excellent with the boys, he was not as popular with the girls. The surprising result is that a young GI girls team has made the rankings. Is this something unique to Grand Island or has it been done elsewhere ?????? |

Posted - November 09 2014 : 11:33:16 Yes, John. Once again, I could not agree more. Why hide behind a pseudonym? (Probably too long a word for UBTF15). Further, why defame so many athletes and a good coach?

Posted - November 06 2014 : 16:12:44 If you supposedly know so much about XC in WNY, how can you qualify what you are saying about XC in this area? You obviously were not at the Alden Bulldog Stampede, where TJ Hornberger's record was broken, or the Section 6 Championships Friday. You are disrespectful of every XC athlete and coach in this area. I have been involved in coaching/competitive running for 28 years and have never heard of you. If you are so qualified to make a statement and demonstrate such blatant disrespect to the section, prove yourself. I find it extremely immature for anyone to say he/she could do a better job. Prove it. Leave the great kids in Section VI XC alone.

Posted - November 05 2014 : 14:58:47 Have you read the rankings among the girls' large schools? What qualifications do you have? Coaching jobs are posted all the time. If you think you are capable of doing a better job, why don't you apply for the job? I don't know who you are or what your background is, but you need to put your money where your mouth is.

Posted - October 26 2014 : 11:15:13 Jason does an excellent job with his team. I am very disappointed that this topic was posted without the facts. Had someone posted something as this about me or my team, I would be none too happy. Our job at this level is to make a student-athlete's high school experience a positive one. It is not a popularity contest. I know that not all my students nor athlets 'adore' me or agree with everything I do. Too bad, so sad. I could care less how a 14,15,16,17, or 18-year-old perceives about me. We really have very little in common. They are kids and we are adults. Whether a parent, mentor, teacher, coach, or boss, we are charged with a responsibility to raise/work with a child and make each one a responsible young adult. Should one's parent be replaced or 'fired' if his/her child doesn't always agree with him/her ? I think not. GI XC should be happy to have someone with Jay's background leading the program. God bless him. He has his hands full with 50-plus different personalities. I LOVE my team. I have great kids. I am sure there are times when the feeling isn't mutual. That's life. I won't lose any sleep over it. Jeanne L. Chiarmonte Physical Education Teacher/Cross Country Coach, NTHS

Posted - October 24 2014 : 19:21:33 Jim,
I have been following the forum long enough to recognize that you seem to possess genuine interest and support for the sport of running at the high school level and in particular, the Grand Island Vikings. However, you should begin double checking your sources and what you are being "told."
Grand Island currently has one coach for its high school cross country program. It does not have any additional coaches, paid or volunteer. There does not appear to be any additional positions being added in the near future. This is unfortunate, as this year's athlete to coach ratio is 58:1. The roster is equally divided between 29 boys and 29 girls. An extra set of eyes would be extremely appreciated and helpful.
As far as the popularity contest goes, it is the GI girls and Boys who are in the lead. They are both #1 on my list. I can't be more proud of the journey they choose to accompanying me with daily.
Sincerely,
Jason Bibler, a.k.a The Grand Island XC Coach "Success is planned, success is EARNED"
PS...Thanks again for your support of your Vikings. Please feel free to stop by and meet the team.
