Elma Meadows
Hundreds of the states best high school runners competed on the grassy paths of Elma Meadows. This is the Boys-B race. Brian Dalpiaz, a junior from Sayville, won this heat in an outstanding 15:54.

Peter Meindl
State Champion

One of the event's high-lights was certainly the spectacular record smashing performance of Orchard Park High School senior Peter Meindl. Peter gradually stretched out a huge lead and eclipsed the 15-year-old 5K cross-country course record by clocking 15:38.

Hundreds of Cross-Country Fans lined the Course!

In this shot, Peter glides effortlessly over final 200 meters of his race.

Final 20 Meters

Moving like lightning but still relaxed, Peter covers the final 20 meters of the 5K race enroute to his course record breaking state championship run.

The Race For 2nd Place
Far behind Peter Meindl a tight race for 2nd place evolved pitting Justin Corelli of Shaker against Mark Alizzi of Syosset. Here we see the runners with about 300 meters to go.

Justin Corelli finds some extra speed and manages to eke a slight lead. Corelli was clocked in 16:02 and Mark Alizzi posted an excellent 16:03 to take 3rd place.

Local X-Country stars were plentiful at Elma Meadows Saturday. Here is Williamsville's Lauren Truesdell. Lauren finished 20th in her race with a stellar 19:55 clocking.

The top cross-country runners came from all over New York state. Here is Steven Kessler from Hicksville en-route to an 18:09 clocking over the challenging Elma Meadows course.

These cross-country runners are from Canastota. On the left is Rosemary Foran. On the right is Clarissa. Rosemary finished 27th in her race with a 20:43 clocking.

These cross-country runners are from Union-Endicott. Mike McPherson (on the left) was in the Boys-A race with Peter Meindl. McPherson hung with the leaders as long as he could hoping to come close to a top-10 performance. He was successful - he came very close - finishing 12th in the state with his 16:36 performance.
