Hello Fellow Runners, I just wanted to share some great news:

We were fortunate to receive a spreadsheet today from Fritz Van Leaven containing the complete race results from the 1976 Koch Brewery - Fredonia Farm Festival 10K.

We formatted, age-graded, and posted immediately. This is a GREAT find. Mega-thanks to Fritz for finding these historic local road race results, then taking the time to scan, correct, and forward them to us for sharing with all.

Among other facinating observations, this race features a world class performance by Buffalo's all-time top marathoner, Mark Finucane.

The race is posted here:

356 finishers ....only 7 men AND women combined over 55 years of age. How times have changed (for the better).

Thanks for the blast from the past J.J. I cant stop thinking about them times they ran back then during my runs. The runners back then were HARD men, and looks like they trained harder. Who knows how smart, but what ever it payed off. I am sure the injuries were plenty and the milage was high. We have become SOFT.

I had just finished reading Jan/Feb issue Of Running Times and Jonathan Beverlys article got me thinking so I did a double day,"To me that is 2 runs in 12 hours" Like I said we have become Soft kicked my axx.

High milage means faster times, but it also means "Running on The Edge"

Shout out to two names I recognized in them results Chris Connelly, and Fritz Van Leaven, they still pop up in current results ??

Speed Kills !!!!

Here's a couple - Ray Szydlo finished 101st in that race in 1976. He was an age group winner in the 65-69 age group at 2012 Turkey Trot.

Paul Policella was 117th in 1976 and ran 20 or so 5K's in 2012.

I have two memories of this race. 1. It was run in the evening; maybe 600 PM start. 2. The guys from Belle Watling, many who ran well and medaled, came with steins and mugs to drink the post race beer.
