I've been training (lightly) on and off for most of this year, and I'm running my first race on Jun 21. I was down around 24:00 last year (I know, slow for most everyone here), but I'm having trouble deciding what my goal should be to start this year off. Are there any training exercises anyone can recommend to let me know what a decent goal should be?

Do 10x800 with a 400 jog recovery. Whatever you average for the 800s, say 3:10...then your marathon goal should be 3 hours and 10 minutes.

Try running a mile 'all-out'(after proper warm-up of course). Adding 30-35 seconds to that time will give you a good idea of your 5K pace. So for example, if you can run a 7:10 mile, a 24:00 5K should be attainable (7:43 pace).
