I recently started up running again after a 6 week break.I've been experiencing what I wouldn't exactly call pain. Both legs in the lower part of the calves and ankles become extremely restless later at night to the point of not being able to sit still. Has anyone else experienced this or know what causes it and maybe a possible treatment?
It's quite bothersome.

RLS is a legitimate and troubling condition and officially not well understood. What I have experienced may not be RLS, but since the symptoms are very similar and I believe that I found an effective treatment, Iíll share it, just in case it may be helpful.

For years I had an interesting but troubling condition such that when my training spiked up to higher intensity and or higher mileage and also right after hard marathons, I developed something similar to RLS. Many little muscles in the lower leg would frequently contract and hold for no good reason, i.e., cramp, throughout the night especially. Usually the only way to alleviate the problem was to get up and walk around. Itís tough to sleep if youíve got to jump up and walk around every 20 minutes! The condition seemed to be permanent too. Day after day, and worse at night.

I found a cure. Drink water, a lot and often and consume carbs frequently, with a cup of water, not necessarily a lot of carbs, but often, with water. Miraculously, even though I did not otherwise have symptoms of dehydration, this process completely eliminated the RLS problem in 12 hours or less with no alteration in the training load.

Give that a try while maintaining the training level, and report back Ö

I also seem to get rls. I think eating bananas really cuts it down.
