JF, I think you are counting one or two of the Albany races twice. The Saratoga run looks like it is the same as the Clifton Park one. I did a quick search and couldn't come up with enrollment figures for any of them-- that would be interesting to see. Troy looks like the race to run if one is in the Capitol District for the holiday-- a choice between a 10k and a 5k, and a history that goes back to 1916. Why do people run in any of the others?

Call it whatever you like, it sure would be nice to have a 5k(0r something) to run on the Fri., Sat or Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend. Yes, the old Broadway Market 5k was excellent.

Two bananas in front of race drop out 33 sec into race....why they were up front....????

Then about 1min 30sec into race a woman decides to jump in and start running in front of lead runners....why? 15 sec of fame?

No, they are two different races----the Saratoga race is in downtown Saratoga and the Clifton Park race is at the St.George's School and this year was the inaugural event.

Troy is the featured race, but there are reasons NOT to run it. The start line is very narrow and for even the 25 minute runner, it may take some time to get going, both across the start and line and with the masses in the early going. If you are looking to run a good time, it may not be the best race unless you're up in the front.

Albany is weird in the fact that the region is really four city-states. There's Albany, Troy, Schenectady and Saratoga, and each has its loyalities. Throw in Cohoes, Watervliet and there are a lot of small cities, each with their own flavors.

Cohoes Trot has a long history and the entry fee is one non-perishable food item. And, it features the unique 3.5 mile distance.

Saratoga: The race honors the memory of Christopher Dailey, who died unexpectantly at age 8. The race has grown to over 2,500 runners. And, if you live north of Albany, it's quicker access.

Schenectady: The second trot in the area, over 30 years. I ran this race in 2011 and really liked it. The course is awesome as it winds through Central Park, which is fabulous place to run in. It's my personal favorite running place as well. It is put on by Ellis Hopsital and is officially called the Cardiac Classic. I may return there in 2013, and with 1800 finishers, it more than holds its own, and parking is easy.

Clifton Park: The biggest suburb in the area, so there are the demographics to start one there as the school did.

Bethlehem: Another big suburb (I live here). They have a race where they don't score it. There is a clock at the finish line and they still get 2,000 runners.

Sorry.....I probably bored y'all to tears, but my passion came through. Forgive me.
