I had some soreness in my leg in July and I didn't pay it a whole lot of mind. I iced. It wasn't pain I couldn't run through, and I doubt I even classified it as pain at the time. What I noticed most was that I just wasn't reaching the next level of racing--where I thought I should have been based on my training and workouts. As the sore leg got worse and I did ease off on the mileage.

In August I stepped off the track at the start of a workout with the fear that I had a stress fracture. A few weeks later a bone scan revealed a fracture in the fibula. I'm now wearing a boot cast for 1-2 more months. This is on top of 5 weeks off running already.

This is the worst thing ever. I can't even cross train. Any advice?

Sorry to hear about this.

The Good:
You are young
Your fitness was at a good level prior to injury
Winter is a good time to rest anyways
Sounds like you will let it heal 100%
You will be eager and hungry to train and race again soon

Don't rush it. Most of us have had that type of injury before and have bounced back.Now whenever I feel pain in the lower leg, I always back off,just to be safe.

Thanks for the advice. I go back to see Jain at University Ortho in late October. I am hopeful that that he will give me a green light for cycling or swimming. Right now I cannot do anything...well, besides gaining weight.
