On Friday, I ran a nice three miler (no pain) and then took my kids to a Family Reunion at an amusement park. While driving the boats, the metal steering wheel smashed into my knee. It hurt for 60 secs, then felt okay.

On Sunday, I raced a 10K and the knee started to bother me quite a bit. On the cool down, it still hurt, but I was able to finish the running.

Today, after limping in pain for 1:20, the pain was so bad, I had to stop. I tried riding my stationary bike and that hurt, too.

I think it may be a bone bruise. Having torn my meniscus before, I think I can rule that out.

They say that bone bruises are tricky. Is it worth getting it checked out by a doctor? I walk fine if that matters.

If it is a bone bruise, any ideas on how to get it better?

Appreciate any advice.

Oppo---you are right, but that doesn't help with my pain. Thanks for your concerns, though xoxoxoxoxoxoxox

The Forum, apparently is not the best place for medical advice, but anyhow - is the knee better, JF? Have you been resting and icing? I'm as stubburn as a mule when it comes to going to the doctor. In all the years that I have been running - only once did I seek medical help for a knee injury, which in fact was the result of dancing.

The knee feels worse. I ran for 74 seconds on Monday, and that was enough. I have an appointment to see the "knee guy," next Monday. I guess we're opposites here. If I feel any type of pain, I run to the doctor. I need to know what the problem is. If they diagnose it, say to take x weeks off, I can live with it. But, the guessing game doesn't work well for me---or my family.

It seems to be underneath the kneecap. It may be chondromacia, but what the heck do I know.

I sure hope the doctor is less than 74 seconds away, otherwise you will not be able to run to him. (Ha ha ha ha)

Yes bone bruises are very nasty. I got one playing hockey on April 24th and it is still there and still makes the top of my right foot slightly numb. I can feel the bump from the bruise. It never affected me except during hockey because of the skates. Sure hope your knee feels better soon.
