I want to hear from race directors/timing companies/people in the know why races are dying in the City of Buffalo. Registration fees have gone up significantly in the past 5 years or so and events are disappearing at an alarming rate.

We used to have races almost every day of the week all summer and this isn't the case anymore. I've heard rumors of the city mandating an absurd 4 hours of Police overtime minimum to hold events. Is this true?

I'm not sure about the specifics of the Buffalo races, but I do know that charges by the police for races has gone up substantially in several towns throughout the area in the past several years. It certainly has had a chilling effect on whether races can be run profitably.

Runners say that such events help local organizations and improve the quality of life. Non-runners ask why they should subsidize such activities as a matter of principle.

No easy answers here.
