Tuff to be a runner the next two months in Buffalo ainntttzzz no JOKE. A few of my favorite running books to keep the fire burning.

Duel in the Sun - John Brant
From Last to First- Charlie Spedding
JOCK A Memoir of the CounterCultive - Robert Coe
A Cold Clear Day- Frank Murphy
WannaBe A Distance God - Timothy M.Tays
TODAY WE DIE A LITTLE- Richard Askwith

And probably my favorite "Virgin Territory" by Randy Sharer.

J.J. I was told Craig Virgin once raced in Buffalo but I found no results ??

Merry Christmas and healthy New Year

This is another good one - Poverty Creek Journal by Thomas Gardner. It only takes a couple hours to read but it will stick with you. https://www.newyorker.com/news/sporting-scene/what-we-think-about-when-we-run

Thanks for the response Jeff, them were some crazy fast times. Things sure have changed. Virgin truly was a beast some of his thoughts in that book showed his passion for racing.

That's right! Craig Virgin was one of the best 10K runners in the USA. In his early 30's, Craig ran here in Buffalo in the Subaru 4 Mile Chase in 1987 and 1989. He won the race in '87 with his 0:18:26 (4:37 per mile). He posted an 11th place finish in '89 with 0:19:00 (4:45/mile).

Check out the 1987 race here:

The top 20 or so finishers make a very impressive list of some of the top USA road runners of the day.
