Posted - December 16 2017 : 08:09:49 This is hard to believe-- that the Shamrock Run is turning 40 in 2018. I ran my first one in 1985 as a high school junior. My track coach said we could use it as a training run----so I ran 33:40 I think. The next year, we were allowed to "race" it, which I did in 28:09.
I have always liked this one----gotta try to get back for number 40.
I moved to Albany but in the late 2000s decided to come back---I would rise at 4:30, hit the road by 5 to make the 300 mile drive back to Buffalo. Haven't been in a few years, but we'll see what we can do for number 40.

There are a few illustrious races in their 4th decades. Subaru is 38 in 2018, the Depew Lancaster 10k, Erie County Fair and Bob Ivory are 40 and the Chilly Challenge is 39. These are all good races to come back for!
