When did the running community I love become so negative? When did we all become perfect? Can we extend a little compassion to race directors when things don't go as planned?maybe you didn't get a hot dog at the end, maybe they had apples not bananas, maybe you wanted coffee or medals instead of ribbons. Putting on a solid race is hard work.

Take for example this past weekend. A grieving family put on a lovely little 5k in honor of their son. The company that was supposed to assist them and guide them- bailed. Non-runners, they sought guidance where they could- and it was a GREAT event! (Despite how terribly the organizers and some participants were treated by the timing company). And the complaints have been few- but those complaining don't seem to have their facts straight, are putting a negative spin on an amazing MEMORIALrun. The 1st annual. The one where you learn and make changes.

I cannot believe we as a community can't do a bit better and embrace those who are offering a new race rather than complaining.

Approximately ten years ago I went through identity theft, I am not going to risk going through it again. If Mckardlekicks wants me to participate; they can make paper entry forms available. Why should I show up to be told I am not welcome to run; but I am welcome to stay and spend my money.

Just let me say that I can feel for people trying to start a new race even as a runner you often do not fully understand what goes into it. We also are starting a race in memory of our son later this month, and even as long time runners we would have not fully understood what to do if not for a vary understanding person from our timing company pointing out some spots that we had missed. Still crossing that our race goes off without to much trouble.

you raise an interesting issue with the timing company. Sometimes a race is run by an external timing and management company and the runners don't realize it until they show up. Making an effort to avoid a company is thwarted when the race promoter makes no mention of this on the flier. We get in a situation where the timing company is running the whole event for the most part, sometimes a good thing sometimes not so good.

I showed up with a fat wallet hoping to sign up and run a 5k. I was told I could not run, but I was told that I could stay and spend a bunch of money. That is not fake news.

Agreed. We are registered in a newer race tomorrow that had a rocky start its first year. Registration the second year was disappointing. I hope people come back to it this time around, it's a great cause (homeless female veterans).
