Who are the local Boston participants this year?
Enjoy watching the race, but even better tracking the locals and their progress.

Scotty;
Tough to run even pace there, know the course and where you can run and where you have to survive!

Ed, when you pass by bib #2615 make sure you give him a "cuff" in the back of the head. And a loud "Dat a Boy Sluggo" it will put a little humor in his day.
Your there man !!!!!! |

| This is why I should read what I type before posting. I thought I hit 9 but apparently hit 8. Oh well, I will be lined up next to AJ in a Buffalo State XC reunion. Scott, maybe I will run into you in the city as well. I am going down next Friday. |

Greetings WNY folk... thanks to a great LA race last year I was able to qualify for both NYC and Boston. Pre NYC I found out that plantar I was experiencing was a heel spur and well.. ouch! It was and has been a struggle to get good mileage in week in and week out. The plantar and spur finally subsided but then went on to experience IT band and Achilles issues on the same side. Left side mechanics apparently are all messed up.So it's been a crappy year and training for the big one. Waiting to race weekend to decide to toe the line.. or find the best pub . Glad to have Josh Demars a once Buffalo State XC teammate to hang out in corral #1. Most runner's dream! He certainly has come on in the WNY race scene.
I was hoping Pat Occhino reads the forum and hoping he's there in Beantown. The only other Boston I ran was in 2000 and it was our 1st. This will make it 12 years since running a shanty 3:12... and then TOO coming off tibial and femural stress fractures. Both Dr. O'Keefe and Dr. Joe Biasillo were on board that year to see me and advise on if and when to run.
A few more notes... in touch with Matt Glynn quite frequently and he's still at it. He's wondering where the rest of you frontrunners who have bumped up a few age groups disappeared to. He needs some company... isn't easy racing the 20-24s! As well,Tommy the IV Proctor continues to support and honor WNY runners, I'm no longer chasing him on the streets but rather online to see what he involved in and what new projects he's supporting or taking on.
The racing season is here.. and hope you're all hitting the times and goals you have set. Look for me top 5 in San Fran..late July and injury aside.. something in the 2:35's range! Tell Matty D, John Francis.. and Sean Mac... I miss them! After race parties here alot you a ONE beer ticket!

AJ, I know what your feeling. I had 8 solid 60 mile weeks of training in leading up to the Shamrock, had done a few doubles,some easy days, life was good. The Sunday before the Sham I was doing a easy 15mlr and at mile 14 felt a tweek in my knee, I ran through it even thou it changed my stride. Monday morning I woke up and things werent right, so I took a few days off,ended up being the whole week, was really looking foward to racing the Sham seeing how I was injured last year and had to miss it. So I ran the Sham knowing things werent right, and paid for it the next day. I have been unable to run since, tried 20mins on treadmill last Monday and things still arent right.So I will line up Monday and see what happens, if things are bad I will just drop out when I hit Natick we are staying at the same hotel we were at in 2000 which is only a 1/2 ml from the course. On a more positive note, Jewls is running the 5k the day before and has been training hard. Also a couple of local 1st time Boston runners will be staying at the same hotel, so I am hoping to help take away some of the stress for them by knowing my way around.
The 5k and the mile are worth watching the finish on Sunday if your up.
Hope to run into you...
Occhino |

mustang- sounds very much like a torn meniscus to me. Sometimes they can fall back into place-- sometimes they don't....a quick snip and you'll be back into action within 6 weeks. I'm not sure if running 26 would do it good though.... ...just my feeling on it. I've had a few tears in my time :) |
