Running may not be complex, but it does pay to experiment, that's what makes it interesting for me. Of course there is no replacement for hard work, and what works for some, may not work for others.
Jim, are you ramping up for a Marathon? To me there is no race that adds more excitement than 26.2, and with all the folks here on the Forum doing so well it kinda gives me the fever!!

Couldn't agree with you more....decided last Sat. after post race party (the beer may have been talking) that Bflo '09 is the goal...hopefully I'll still feel this way in the dead of winter. I think that I get an extra 5 minutes next year!
Good luck to everyone doing Towpath, Chicago, and Steamtown this weekend. Make us WNYers proud.

Yeah, I am gearing up for the Harpeth Hills Flying Monkey Marathon in Nashville the weekend before Thanks Giving. This is supposed to be one of the hilliest courses in the country which has me looking for some hills to get some miles on.
I ran Dayton, OH a few weeks ago, ...great race but I went out too fast and succumbed to the heat late in the race. I am considering slipping another fast flat course in as well, the Fallsview. That would be three in three months which is a lot. I rebounded pretty good after Dayton so I feel like I may be able to do this.
Work has been crazy and I don't think I have done a 5 or 10K since like June. All my runs have been predawn. All you need is sneakers and pavement so if I have to hit the road at 4:30 AM to get a run in, that is good enough for now.

The fever is the fever. I sat out of the Buffalo Marathon last year having run in Maine a week or two before. But after feeling the energy of everyone as they passed by me on the side of the street last May, Buffalo 2009 will definately be back on the schedule.
Good luck guys, ... keep kicking on those 5Ks, I have been watching your times go down and down, ...

Sue thanks for the info, it looks like it's held a couple weeks after Bflo. That might be a little to close for me. But I will save the web sight incase. It sounds more like [lonergan09] might be able to tackle that. Jim that Flying Monkey Marathon sounds like it would be fun and tuff, throw up there sight when you get a chance please.
Peace Out |

Thanks for the link Sue. I have some friends who will be moving from Los Angelos up to the Portland area, so I now have a second reason to take a trip out there.
I stumbled on the Harpeth Hills race trying to find a race around Thanksgiving that I can run on my trip down to Florida to see my family for the holiday. I kind of made it my plan to run at least one interesting race in a unique place per year and this one seems to fit the bill. The link is:

I seem to recall some pretty big hills down the Rt. 33 about 30 minutes outside of Buffalo. There is a truck stop and a small restuarant out there. So I think I can head out there early Saturday mornings and get some hills in.
If anyone will be traveling down south towards Florida a great halfway point is Hillsville, VA. There are hotels right off the expressway (via I-79) It won't take you long to figure out how the town got its name. From the hotels into town it is about 2.5 miles each way. |

| It looks like Harpeth Hills is out for now, ... registration closed. I found an innaugeral marathon in Robohoth, Delaware on the same day. This appears to be a flat and fast course right on the beach and boardwalk. The beach in November? I will probably forgo the Falls Marathon now to properly and sanely train for this race. So no three marathons in three months. This will give me a good time schedule to run New Orleans in Feburary and then Buffalo in May. I'll miss the Turkey Trot but I will not be missing the Shamrock or the Bengal Run again. I am pretty sure that you have to go to confession if you miss the Shamrock before you can take communion again. |

I can't comment about Rehoboth Beach in November, but it is a beautiful place in the Fall.
